The customer
Flying is always a human adventure for travelers, but it can also be a real journey for their suitcases! And the challenge of baggage handling, and more broadly of industrial products, is to automate this production chain.
- Handling system designer and integrator
- Project start-up: September 2020
- Deployment at Zagreb airport (Croatia)
The challenge
The collaboration with Alstef Group begins well in advance of the integration phase, and with good reason: we are co-developing a Proud Of Concept of our platform, to ensure the maintenance of baggage sorting systems in airports. The level of expectation is high, as the entire value chain of service users would be impacted in the event of an incident: passengers, the airport operator, and Alstef itself!

We have launched a project with CARL Berger-Levrault to set up a predictive maintenance platform to help us improve our maintenance and ensure optimum quality of service for our customers.
This involves :
- Offer optimum quality of service for crew deliveries
- Eliminate downtime on the production line
- Qualify technical interventions
- Increase conveyor lifetime
Our answer
The challenge is to understand the individual behavior of equipment on the routing line, and to ensure better monitoring of carousels and conveyors. We are therefore developing a specific version of BLPredict, connected to their existing CMMS (CARL Source), to provide predictive maintenance for the baggage sorting system at Zagreb airport.
Deployment
- 10 conveyors equipped with 7 sensors
- 1 carousel equipped with 8 sensors
- Data collected: belt (intensity, temperatures, speed, vibration, centering); number and weight of luggage items
- + More than 700K data/day
Some benefits
Improved performance thanks to better knowledge of field equipment
Better management of human resources, with an 80% reduction in equipment inspection rounds
Cost savings with a 30% reduction in preventive maintenance
100s of optimized technical hours per year

The strength of this model enables us to improve maintenance management and achieve 99.9% system availability.
What next?
The BAGXpert solution
BLPredict’s performance within these infrastructures has confirmed Alstef’s ambition to offer their customer base a maintenance solution that directly embeds our technology: BAGXpert ! A self-learning, adaptive “plug and play” predictive maintenance system, BAGXpert anticipates failures, detects the risk of breakdowns, and reorganizes maintenance activities in real time, optimizing the planning of production runs for baggage transport.
Direction Ciudad de México
And as good news never comes alone, we are continuing our collaboration with Alstef to equip their baggage sorting system at the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport in México (Mexico), inaugurated on March 21, 2022, from December 2023.
